Well Newcastle United did just that on Wednesday, November 13, 2002.
Bobby Robson's Alan Shearer-led Magpies became the first team ever to progress out of the Champions League group stages having lost their first three games. It's easy to forget NUFC and Europe's premier competition were even a thing once. Well, three times actually - and hopefully many more to come.

One night in Rotterdam. Three goals scored, two conceded, the record books rewritten.

Needing to win to have any chance of progressing, Craig Bellamy's opener on the stroke of half-time set United on their way, followed in celebration by some customary goading of the home rank and file by the Welshman.

Then, just after the break, Hugo Viana sent the travelling Magpies' faithful into raptures at the De Kuip with a left-footed cracker.

Joy was soon replaced with angst as first Mariano Bombarda halved the deficit, then a retreat to familiar head-in-hands territory ensued as Anthony Lurling made it 2-2. United were heading out of the Champions League.

However, match-winner Bellamy - and Kieron Dyer - had other ideas.

A night dreams are made of. This is what the feeling of winning something I'd imagine (probably) feels like. This goal and those three points meant the world to Geordies that night, anyway.
