Chosen by Danny Lewis as his favourite ever game:

This was always going to be one of Upton Park’s most historic nights. It also turned out to be one of the best matches West Ham’s spiritual home would ever play host to. Generation after generation of Hammers fans will look back on this night, while those who were there will re-tell their stories of the evening that ended 112 years of history. When they do, they’ll speak of the excitement of Diafra Sakho’s opener, the despair after Anthony Martial’s goals, the relief of Michail Antonio’s equaliser, the complete euphoria of Winston Reid’s winner, their pride witnessing Mark Noble’s incredible performance, the joy of seeing all of the ex-players again and the spine-tingling video of Bobby Moore switching off the lights. I count myself very lucky to have been there, watching on from the Bobby Moore Upper. It was the best night of my life and the greatest atmosphere I have ever witnessed at a football match. I also see it as a privilege that I will be able to tell the tales of the night, not just from my point of view, but from plenty of others who were there for the Boleyn Ground’s farewell.

Danny is currently writing The Boleyn’s Farewell: West Ham’s final game at Upton Park which will be published by @PitchPublishing on 10th May 2021
