My Favourite Euro's Memory: Words from Cecilia Lagos
My relationship with the Netherlands started long before I came to live in this wonderful country. Although, when I first fell in love with their national team and, especially, their amazing 1988-1990 Adidas kit, little did I know I’d end up living there. The Netherlands is one of the most important and determinant countries in the history of football: 3 World Cup finals and a total world football revolution that started in the 70’s have come from this tiny Northern European country. However their only national team title is the Euro 1988 and that Van Basten goal crowns and shows very well what Dutch football is about. From the steal of Van Tiggelen in the middle to the looping ball of Muhren from the left, that Van Basten volley is pure finesse, the stuff dreams are made of, in the total football concept that Rinus Michels created and took to the highest level to get that historic, yet only trophy obtained by the Oranje, my beloved Oranje.
