The moment which gave Chelsea belief to secure its second UCL title. In a period of uncertainty and melancholy following Lampard’s sacking, the tide was turning with Tuchel’s arrival but last thing Chelsea fans expected was an Olivier Giroud bicycle kick to shock the La Liga leaders.

Heading towards a hard earned draw against an in-form Simeone side is no mean feat. The lack of chances and robust Simeone system was proving impossible to breach. In a split second, everything changed. Alonso’s cross seemingly wasted, falling to Mount in a 50/50 with Hermoso and Giroud latching on to the loose ball in an astonishingly acrobatic fashion. Goal. The feeling of excitement and shock turned to a gut wrenching feeling of despair when the dreaded offside flag arose. The roller coaster of emotions was complete when VAR overturned the decision and Chelsea had triumphed against all odds over a formidable Atletico side.

Olivier Giroud’s spectacular last goal for Chelsea proved to be one which instilled a sense of belief in a Chelsea side finding their feet again. Little did they know, this belief would take them to Porto and eventually be crowned champions of Europe for the second time…
