Marco Tardelli: Italy v West Germany 1982
My favourite goal from Russ Williams.
My goal happened in the 1982 World Cup Final Italy v West Germany. Because of the stage, the build-up and the passion. The Germans lost the ball after taking a throw in in the Italian half. Italy’s surprise man of the tournament Paolo Rossi intercepted the ball and sprinted forward. The ball was coveted in a series of passes around the German box by Conte, Bergomi and Scirea. The latter spotted Tardelli on the edge of the box by the D passed the ball...one quick touch from Tardelli and a sublime left foot strike past a stranded Harald Schumacher. The celebration remains one of the greatest and most memorable goal celebrations on the biggest stage possible. Magnificent.
