Chosen by Jim Salveson as their favourite ever goal story:

Payet was the kind of player that West Ham fans love. Unpredictable and stylish on the pitch with the ability to produce moments of pure magic... but also just a little bit unhinged. His goal against Middlesbrough summed up for me what made him special. It was a goal from nowhere and a goal where he probably should have offloaded the ball on several occasions if he'd paid attention to his coaching... but true mavericks never pay attention to the rules! The move stayed with Winston Reid (another great player whose time at the club ended inauspiciously), who played a long, searching ball to the left-wing midway inside the Boro half. Payet's first touch buys him space away from the Boro defender who continues to press only to find himself trailing in Payet's slipstream as the Frenchman spins and drives towards Valdés goal. Upon reaching the box Payet shapes to cross but dummies turning another Middlesbrough defender inside out in the process. He then runs directly along the edge of the six-yard box, ignoring his teammates in better positions and leaving one, two, then three defenders sprawling before slotting it back across goal for the finish. It was a moment of magic befitting a far bigger occasion than a rescued point against The Boro but the big goals aren't always reserved for the big occasions.
