Is there a better time than the last minute of the last game of the season to score a goal which turns the race for the Championship play offs on its head? Ask Brighton fans and their Man from Argentina Leonardo Ulloa and the answer is no. The Albion went into the final day of the 2013-14 campaign away at Nottingham Forest knowing that if they bettered Reading’s result at home to Burnley, they would leapfrog the Royals to claim sixth spot. That Brighton were even in the race was a miracle in itself; bar the goals of Ulloa, Oscar Garcia was working with a squad on paper who should have been finishing in midtable. The underrated Albion boss had done miraculously to have his side in playoff contention. As the game ticked into the 90th minute at the City Ground, the Albion were drawing 1-1. A couple of hundred miles south and the full time whistle blew at the Madjeski Stadium. Reading had also drawn. Home fans spilled onto the pitch to celebrate what they believed was their sixth place finish and subsequent participation in the playoffs. Ulloa though had other ideas. Forest v Brighton ticked into the 92nd minute when the Albion launched one final counter attack. Kazenga LuaLua found Craig Mackail-Smith drifting into the left channel. Mackail-Smith sent over the perfect cross towards Ulloa, whose towering header crashed into the back of the net in front of a packed away end, now going absolutely insane at snatching sixth spot at the latest possible opportunity. Reading fans have never forgiven the Albion for their egg-on-face celebratory pitch invasion. Ulloa wrote himself into Brighton folklore with that moment. Glorious.
