Chloe Kelly’s Euros final goal might not be the most extravagant or spectacular but it is undoubtedly the goal that has inspired generations of young boys and girls and that is why it is my favourite goal. As an avid women’s football fan I have watched England compete at multiple international tournament but Kelly’s goal created an atmosphere and buzz at a women’s game I had never experienced before. When Kelly initially swung for the ball and missed I thought the goalkeeper was going to quickly sweep up the ball but Kelly was determined to get the final touch. Once the ball hit the back of the net chaos ensued followed by anxiety as the England players stared at the officials waiting for VAR to confirm the goal. I think my heart stopped beating for the eight seconds between the goal and the players celebrating. Wembley Stadium erupted and the celebration made the moment even more memorable and iconic. As Kelly swung her shirt around her head my eyes teared up in the realisation that this goal made history for women’s football in England.
