Chosen by Kate Mason as her favourite ever goal:

Part of football’s brilliance is that it is the sport with the most dramatic one-off reversals, because an entire game can be decided by a single action.

I chose Jude Bellingham's bicycle kick against Slovakia from the 2024 Euros not just because I am basic, but because it is the greatest example of this I have ever experienced as a match-going England fan. Speaking as Spurs the Ajax semifinal was the maddest reverse. But the difference with this game is that it was the first knockout stage: we weren’t deep in the tournament. Toxicity had returned to surround the England men and the team were fighting against it, and now the Gareth Southgate era - one I loved so much - was in its final minute.

The game had been appalling. The crowd was bitter, depleted, ready for another feeble conclusion to the England tournament fantasy. But all I could think about was all the joy and hope England had given us since 2018. To exit in such a negative way seemed unjust.

And then a scoring attempt that contains in itself a maverick glee flipped the whole thing (forgive me) on its head. And, the ecstasy. A sound from Gelsenkirchen more animal than any I can ever remember hearing in a football stadium, although it's true that may have been me.

I experienced it as the triumph of spirit, bullishness and belief against the dulling forces of cynicism. Southgate’s England team had a radiance to them, and this goal holds that for me.
