Odion Ighalo: Watford v Everton 2015

£20.00

Words from Dom Baker

Watford were so impressive in their 2014/15 promotion season, the right balance of flair and resilience with a real buzz throughout the supporters. Their arrival to the premier league was deserved but many expected them to head straight back down. “They’ve signed too many players”. Watford came to Goodison Park on a hot opening day with a rag-tag bunch of “mercenaries” and Odion Ighalo introduced himself to the English top flight. Coming on with little time to play the Nigerian collected the ball 25 yards out, stretched past a sliding Jagielka, sat John Stones on his backside and slid the ball past Tim Howard. He had arrived and so had Watford who both went onto break club-records that season. We might have drawn 2-2 but it really felt like a statement, a sign of things to come. And I was sat in a bar in Greece more than a few beverages deep. What a day. What a goal.
